While the landscape downtown can be somewhat bleak, there's an iconic quality to the Westward Ho that's unmistakable.
At first light, the Ho is like a little slice of Monument Valley reflecting the morning sun.
And at night, with the right cloud cover, the Ho morphs into an almost gothic set piece, serving as backdrop to a well lit set or stage.
And all of this can be seen from the little 10 by 6 foot patch of concrete that is our balcony.
Our as my father would say, the White Guy Veranda.
