Savoring the moment

Drove down to Cottonwood, Saturday, to hang with da moms and out for a belated mother's day bite.

"I just had a kitten!" she'd exclaimed earlier, on the phone. Three more followed in the interim, on my way down.

She'd trapped a semi-feral cat on Friday, to be spayed, but had done so just as the holiday weekend materialized, and the vet gone out of town.

Then, noting the lil critter fit to burst, she'd put her in the laundry room, ensconced in a box of old t-shirts, and that next very morning... voila, the miracle of life!

"Had no idea I'd be so excited," she told me, "but there it is."

"You look good, ma," I told her. And she did. Infused with a certain light.

"I do today," she responded.

And yeah, there will be challenges to follow - for her, the kitties, and all of us walking around one more day above ground.

But I'll take it.

We certainly get enough of the other. So when comes a shiny little moment, a check that's been paid,
why not savor it?

And despite our thickening middles, we did.

After soup and salad, hors d'oeuvres and entrees, breaded mushrooms and burgers - she ordered the german chocolate cake, and I the lemon raspberry.

Our just desserts?

Maybe. Maybe not.

But definitely tasty. :)

Ungleaned

Awoke at 3 this a.m. with a tickle in my throat, the remnants of a 2 week bout of bronchitis, all but banished.

I'd dreamt I was on a ferris wheel, half buried under ground, and as I woke, it conveyed me upward into consciousness.

There was more, of course - some deeper meaning - but as I lay on the couch, half ensconced in semiconsciousness, it slipped away.

Not unlike the hours, days and years preceding this one.

Life, after all, is but a dream.

(beat)

Too wistful?

Fear not gentle readers, it's all good in the hood.

Just letting the words tease themselves out. Maybe hinting at some glittering bit of previously ungleaned meaning.

Playtime

So I used to write a tad bit more on the ol' blog-gerino. Was just surfing back through some old posts and noticed a decided sparsity of syllables, now vs. then.

Not sure when or why that all changed (but by god, we got's nuttin' but space and time here) and thought, hey, what the heck, maybe we should try that again.

Chaka Khan!
(What?!)

Oops. Sorry about that. A seeming non-sequitar, perhaps, but it all makes sense, really, in the grand scheme of things. At least on this side of the corpus callosum.

Let me 'splain…

(uh, in another post, of course, 'cause while the space/time continuum is boundless, morning rush hour does have it's sweet spot)
